Planning a trip to the East Coast? Brace yourself. All Kuantan-bound lanes on the KL-Karak Highway at KM 25.75 (near Bukit Tinggi) are completely closed until 31 August 2025 to make way for East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) construction works.

According to the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), the closure is necessary for the safe installation of a massive steel bridge across the highway. The ECRL project is expected to enhance connectivity between Klang Valley and the East Coast once completed – but until then, expect significant delays.

What You Need to Know:

  • Full closure of all Kuantan-bound lanes at KM 25.75.

  • Traffic diverted to the opposite (KL-bound) lanes using contra-flow.

  • Heavy congestion expected during weekends and holidays.
