As of 4pm yesterday, more than 10 million Malaysians – or 62.5% of the 16 million eligible citizens – have enjoyed savings under the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) targeted fuel subsidy programme, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

Since the initiative began on September 27, 2025, a total of 365.7 million litres of RON95 petrol have been purchased at the subsidised price of RM1.99 per litre, amounting to RM727.7 million in total, Bernama reported.

In a statement, the ministry said the response from the public has been highly encouraging since the rollout, with daily transactions surpassing three million on weekends.

“This demonstrates that Malaysians are ready to embrace a targeted subsidy system that is transparent, efficient, and provides real benefits to the people,” the MoF said.“It also highlights the reliability of the MyKad digital verification system, which has been operating smoothly at petrol stations nationwide.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Senator Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, confirmed that only 34 complaints related to Budi95 have been received so far, mainly due to minor technical glitches.

For motorists who were mistakenly charged RM2.60 per litre instead of the subsidised rate, refunds can be requested via the official portal mysubsidi.kpdn.gov.my by submitting purchase receipts as proof.

The Budi95 programme initially began with police and military personnel as part of Malaysia’s broader shift toward a targeted subsidy system, aimed at ensuring that government aid reaches those who need it most.
