5.5 million Malaysian drivers risk blacklisting
The Transport Ministry of Malaysia has issued a serious warning. About 5.5 million drivers across the country have unpaid summonses from the Road Transport Department, also known as JPJ. These drivers must pay their fines soon or face serious penalties. The government is taking this matter very seriously to improve road safety for everyone.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced a final chance for drivers. You can get a 50 percent discount if you pay your outstanding JPJ summons by December 30. After this date, the discount ends. Starting January 1, drivers who have not paid may be blacklisted. This means you cannot renew your road tax or your driving licence. Some cases will also be sent to court.
The large number of summonses comes from different offences. The ministry stated that 3.68 million fines are for general traffic violations. Another 1.38 million summonses are related to the automated awareness safety system. The government wants all drivers to follow the rules and clear these outstanding payments immediately.
A new system for paying fines is also in place. This system encourages fast payment. You get a 50 percent discount if you pay within 15 days of getting a new summons. The discount is less if you pay later. After 60 days, your case may go to court and you will be blacklisted. This new rule aims to make all drivers more responsible on the road.
