When starting the car, why does the steering wheel shake slightly? While driving, there’s no shaking at all. However, when stopping at a traffic light, the steering wheel shakes slightly again. What could be the reason for this?

Dear Sabri,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your concern.

You mentioned that your steering wheel shakes slightly when starting the car and while idling at traffic lights, but there is no shaking while driving. Based on the symptoms you've described, here are some possible causes:

1. Engine Mount Wear

- Engine mounts are designed to absorb vibrations from the engine. If they are worn or damaged, you may feel slight shaking in the steering wheel when the car is idling or starting. Typically, the shaking reduces when the vehicle is in motion because the engine load changes.

2. Spark Plug or Ignition Issues

- Faulty or dirty spark plugs can lead to uneven engine firing, which may cause the engine to run roughly when idling. This rough idle can result in minor vibrations felt through the steering wheel.

3. Vacuum Leak or Minor Engine Imbalance

- A small vacuum leak or minor issue with the air-fuel mixture can cause the engine to idle roughly. This might not affect driving performance but can cause the car to shake slightly at a standstill.

4. Loose Belts or Engine Components

- If any belts or pulleys in the engine compartment are loose or worn, they may cause minor vibrations during idle, which could be felt in the steering wheel.

5. Since the shaking stops when the vehicle is in motion, it is likely related to engine vibrations at low RPMs rather than issues with wheels, tires, or suspension components. We suggest having a qualified mechanic inspect the engine mounts, spark plugs, and related components. A simple tune-up or minor repair may resolve the issue and improve overall driving comfort.
