Production of Proton S70 Sedan Begins at Tanjung Malim Plant
Proton has taken the wraps off its latest automobile, introducing the Proton S70. Marking the company's first entirely new sedan since the Proton Persona was introduced back in August 2016, this new model was officially christened and accompanied by the tagline "Intelligence that Evolves," as revealed by Dr. Li Chunrong, the CEO of Proton. Starting on November 1, 2023, prospective customers can make reservations for the Proton S70 with a deposit of RM500.
This marks a significant milestone for Proton as it re-enters the family sedan market with a smart, safety-conscious, and well-appointed vehicle. The S70 boasts cutting-edge safety features, connectivity options, and a 1.5L turbocharged engine mated to a dual-clutch transmission, tailored to satisfy both existing Proton enthusiasts and newcomers.
Collaborating with Geely, the Proton S70 is the fourth entirely new Proton model, following the Proton X70, Proton X50, and the mild hybrid Proton X90. It's also the second fresh model to hit the market in 2023. Prior to its official launch, Proton will conduct customer previews in key Malaysian state capitals, providing a close-up look at the new model.
Proton's line-off event is a significant step in partnership with DRB-Hicom and Geely to establish Tanjong Malim and the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV) as a national automotive hub. Since 2019, Proton has made substantial investments in upgrading its facilities, which include a new engine assembly line, a stamping shop, and assembly lines, totaling over RM1.8 billion. These efforts are aimed at broadening Proton's vehicle range, encompassing New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), and ultimately, electric vehicles.
The Proton S70 is set to propel Proton's journey of growth and innovation, positioning itself to compete in the family sedan market segment that was once dominated by models like the Proton Wira, Waja, and Prevé.
