Selangor’s RM200 million Smart Parking system will officially roll out across the state starting August 1, 2025, and if you're a driver, here's what you really need to know to avoid getting a ticket.

Where is it launching?

The Smart Parking system will go live in 12 local councils, including:

  • Petaling Jaya (MBPJ)

  • Shah Alam (MBSA)

  • Subang Jaya (MBSJ)

  • Klang (MPK)

  • Ampang Jaya (MPAJ)

  • Kajang (MPKj)

  • Selayang (MPS)

  • Sepang (MPSepang)

  • Kuala Langat (MPKL)

  • Kuala Selangor (MPKS)

  • Sabak Bernam (MPSB)

  • Hulu Selangor (MDHS)

If you usually park in these areas, get ready for the change.

What is Smart Parking?

Smart Parking uses digital sensors and license plate recognition to manage parking. That means no more paper tickets or pay-and-display slips. It will detect when your vehicle is parked and automatically charge you once payment is made through the app.

How do you pay?

You’ll need to download the Smart Selangor Parking (SSP) app or use the Flexi Parking app. Top up your wallet, key in your vehicle number, and start your parking session. Some councils might integrate Touch ‘n Go and other e-wallets soon.

What happens if you don’t pay?

If you don’t start a session through the app, the system will detect your car and a fine will be issued automatically. There will be no parking attendants—it’s all digital now.

Why the upgrade?

The Selangor government said this is part of its plan to modernise public services, reduce congestion, and cut down illegal parking. The RM200 million budget covers system installation, server infrastructure, and software updates over the next five years.

What should drivers do now?

  1. Download the app before August 1.

  2. Register your vehicle in the system.

  3. Check your local council’s parking zones to avoid confusion.

  4. Stay updated—some councils may offer free trial periods or discounts at launch.
