16 KL roads to close for Turun Anwar rally – what drivers must know
Planning to drive into Kuala Lumpur this Saturday? You might want to reconsider. Sixteen major roads will be closed in the city centre due to the Turun Anwar rally, which is expected to cause major traffic disruptions.
The KL police have confirmed that the closures will begin at 7 am on July 27 and continue until the rally ends. If you're heading into town, expect delays, detours, and congestion.
Affected Roads in Kuala Lumpur
According to the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), here are the 16 roads that will be closed temporarily:
- Jalan Kuching
- Jalan Tun Razak
- Jalan Sultan Ismail
- Jalan Imbi
- Jalan Pudu
- Jalan Bukit Bintang
- Jalan Raja Chulan
- Jalan Ampang
- Jalan Raja Laut
- Jalan Tun Perak
- Jalan TAR
- Jalan Dang Wangi
- Jalan Hang Tuah
- Jalan Tun Sambanthan
- Jalan Sultan Sulaiman
- Jalan Hishamuddin
These roads surround Dataran Merdeka, the rally’s expected gathering point.
Why the Rally?
Organised by various non-governmental organisations, the rally named “Turun Anwar” is a form of protest demanding government action on economic issues, including fuel subsidy restructuring and rising living costs.
