Two tyre company directors in Malaysia have been charged in court for selling 107 tyres with fake Sirim safety stamps.
These tyres were retreated but carried counterfeit Sirim MS 224:2005 stickers, misleading buyers into believing they met official safety standards. The incident happened at a factory in Puchong and highlights how fake certification can put road users at serious risk.
Under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, the two directors could face up to three years in jail, a fine of RM200,000, or both. For repeated offences, the penalty rises further.
Their company also faces fines of up to RM500,000, increasing to RM1 million for future violations. Bail has been set at RM10,000 each, with the next court mention expected next month.
This case is a reminder for Malaysian drivers to always check their tyres before purchase. Fake safety stickers not only cheat consumers but can also lead to accidents on highways or during long trips, including busy routes towards Woodlands Checkpoint.
Just like checking petrol prices, using a traffic camera, or calculating costs with a loan calculator, tyre safety is an essential part of responsible driving.
