MyDigital ID becomes the sole key: what MyJPJ users need to know before February 1, 2026
The digital landscape in Malaysia is rapidly evolving, and the way you access essential government services is changing with it.
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced a significant security upgrade for the MyJPJ app, making MyDigital ID the sole login method for most users starting February 1, 2026. This mandatory transition is set to replace the traditional, password-based login system, promising a more secure and streamlined experience.
If you are one of the millions of Malaysians who rely on the MyJPJ app for services like viewing your digital road tax (LKM) and driving license (LMM), checking summonses, or managing vehicle information, it’s crucial to understand this change and prepare well in advance.

Why the Shift to MyDigital ID? (The Security and Convenience Factor)
The move to a unified digital identity system aligns with the government's broader digital transformation strategy. The traditional username and password method, while familiar, is prone to various security risks, including identity fraud and the creation of fake accounts.
MyDigital ID offers a more robust, government-certified solution. Key benefits include:
Enhanced Security: MyDigital ID authenticates users by linking directly to the National Registration Department (JPN) database. This process uses advanced security measures, often incorporating facial recognition during the one-time registration, significantly reducing the risk of unauthorized access.
Single Sign-On (SSO): Instead of managing multiple usernames and passwords for different government platforms, MyDigital ID serves as a single, unified login. Once fully integrated, this ID will simplify access across various integrated government services, offering immense convenience.
Zero Personal Data Storage: Authorities emphasize that the MyDigital ID system does not store personal data within the app itself. It acts purely as a secure verification layer, referring directly to the official government database, which enhances user privacy.
Combatting Fraud: By ensuring that every MyJPJ account for adult citizens is tied to a verified digital identity, JPJ can better curb the creation of fake accounts and protect the integrity of its system.
Who Needs to Transition and What's the Deadline?
The new requirement applies to all Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above who use the MyJPJ app.
The deadline is February 1, 2026. After this date, adult users will no longer be able to log in using their old IC number and password.
Important Exceptions:
Individuals under 18 years old will continue to use the existing login method via a dedicated link that requires their 12-digit MyKad/MyPR number and password.
MyPR card holders (Permanent Residents) will also continue to use the current password-based login system.
Your Action Plan: How to Prepare for the Single Login
With millions of existing MyJPJ users needing to make this switch, early registration is highly recommended to avoid potential access issues as the deadline approaches.
Step 1: Download and Register for MyDigital ID
Download the official MyDigital ID app from your smartphone's app store (Google Play, Apple App Store, or Huawei AppGallery).
Follow the in-app instructions to complete the pre-registration process. This typically involves an eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) process, including facial verification to match your identity against the JPN database.
Step 2: Complete the One-Time Verification
For a complete registration, you may need to visit a designated MyDigital ID kiosk (available at select NADI, Sentuhan Madani Kiosks, or other locations) to verify your identity using your MyKad and fingerprint.
Alternatively, the registration process on the mobile app is designed to be streamlined, allowing most users to complete the verification with their smartphone and facial recognition.
Step 3: Access MyJPJ Using Your New Digital ID
Once your MyDigital ID is active, you can begin using the MyDigital ID login option on the MyJPJ app.
First-time MyJPJ users can also use MyDigital ID for a seamless and secure new account registration.
Don't Delay: Ensure Continuous Access
Approximately 11 million MyJPJ users who are 18 and above still need to transition to MyDigital ID. Waiting until the final weeks before the February 1, 2026, deadline could lead to congestion and delays in accessing your important vehicle and driving information. Take action today to ensure a smooth, secure, and uninterrupted experience with the MyJPJ app!
