Malaysia will introduce a stronger and stricter Kejara system in 2026 after the government confirmed that the current version is no longer effective. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the present system failed because demerit points are only added after drivers pay their summons, allowing many offenders to escape penalties for long periods. The new Kejara reform 2026 aims to close this loophole and improve road safety nationwide.

Under the updated system, demerit points will be enforced even if the summons has not been settled. This means drivers who continue to ignore their fines will face faster action, including licence suspension or being blocked from renewing their licence and road tax. The new Kejara rules will also connect more closely with MyJPJ and MySikap so enforcement becomes immediate and consistent.

Another major change is the alignment of compound rates. JPJ and PDRM will no longer issue different fine amounts for the same offence. This makes enforcement clearer for the public and makes it harder for repeat offenders to take advantage of the system. JPJ is now finalising the full details of the reform, which will be one of the biggest updates to Malaysian traffic laws in many years.
