Got a saman after a night out in Malaysia? Which fines can you pay online?
Most Malaysian traffic saman, including PDRM compounds, JPJ and AES camera notices and council parking compounds, can be paid online through MyBayar PDRM, MyJPJ or your local council portal, but drink-driving charges and other non-compoundable offences cannot and must be settled in court.
If you woke up to a saman notice after a night out, the clock is already running. Since 1 January 2026, paying within 15 days cuts a RM300 compound to RM150, while waiting past 60 days risks court action and a blacklist. Motorist, Malaysia's AutoConcierge platform, has mapped what you can settle from your phone today (16 October 2026) and what you cannot.
Key takeaways
- Payable online: PDRM compounds (MyBayar PDRM), JPJ and AES camera notices (MyJPJ or MySIKAP) and council parking compounds (your council's portal).
- Not payable online: drink-driving under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (up to 2 years' jail, a RM10,000 to RM30,000 fine and a licence ban of at least 2 years), plus other court-only offences such as driving without insurance.
- Pay fast, pay less: 50% off on days 1 to 15 (RM150 on a RM300 compound), 33% off on days 16 to 30 (about RM200), full rate on days 31 to 60, and court action plus blacklisting from day 61.
- Check two systems: a JPJ saman will not appear in the police app and vice versa, so search both with your MyKad number.
- Motorist App sends saman alerts and lets you pay in the app, so you do not miss the 15-day window.
Which saman can you pay online, and which can't you?
Compoundable saman are payable online. A compound is an offer to settle an offence by paying a set amount instead of going to court. Three issuers cover almost everything you can get on a night out:
- PDRM (police) compounds: pay on the MyBayar PDRM portal or app (mybayar.rmp.gov.my) by online banking (FPX) or card. Login is via MyDigital ID and there is no service charge.
- JPJ and AES (AwAS) camera notices: check and pay in the MyJPJ app or the MySIKAP portal. Paying through MyJPJ also lifts a JPJ blacklist once the payment clears.
- Council parking compounds: pay on the issuing council's own portal or app, such as DBKL in Kuala Lumpur or MPS in Selayang.
Court-only offences cannot be paid online. Drink-driving, driving without a licence or insurance, and displaying a fake road tax are non-compoundable, so you must go through the court process. Ignoring a court date can lead to an arrest warrant.
Roadblocks can add small saman too. Police "Op Mabuk" roadblocks check for alcohol, but officers also compound unrelated offences found at the same stop, such as no seatbelt, a non-compliant plate or a missing driving licence. Those smaller compounds follow the normal online-payment rules above.
Why can't a drink-driving charge be paid online?
It is a criminal charge, not a compound. Drink-driving falls under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, as amended in 2020. On conviction it carries up to 2 years' jail, a fine of RM10,000 to RM30,000 and a driving-licence disqualification of at least 2 years. The legal limit is 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.
Recent 2026 sentences show the range. On 2 October 2026 a Batu Pahat magistrate fined a driver RM15,000 and jailed him for one day (10 months if unpaid) at 123mg/100ml, plus a 2-year ban. In April 2026 the High Court raised a lawyer's sentence to 14 days' jail and RM12,000 for 71mg/100ml, after finding the lower-court penalty too lenient.
The safe move is to not drive. Leave the car, book an e-hailing ride and deal with any parking compound later. This article is general information, not legal advice. If you have been charged, speak to a lawyer.
How much will you pay? The 15-30-60-day schedule
One national schedule replaced the festive discounts. Since 1 January 2026, JPJ and PDRM use the "the less you delay, the less you pay" principle for compoundable saman. The example below uses the RM300 maximum compound announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke; smaller compounds are reduced by the same percentages.
- Days 1 to 15: 50% off, so you pay RM150.
- Days 16 to 30: 33% off, so you pay about RM200.
- Days 31 to 60: full compound, RM300.
- Day 61 onwards: court action and blacklisting.
Council parking compounds use their own rates. From 1 March 2026, DBKL charges RM10 if paid in 1 to 7 days, RM20 in 8 to 15 days, RM30 in 16 to 30 days and RM50 after 30 days. Selayang council (MPS) charges RM60, dropping to RM10 if paid within 72 hours. If you left your car overnight and took a ride home, check the council portal the next morning.
How do you pay a saman online, step by step?
- Identify the issuer. Police compounds go to MyBayar PDRM, JPJ and AES notices to MyJPJ or MySIKAP, and parking compounds to the council that issued them.
- Log in with your MyKad number. MyBayar PDRM uses MyDigital ID, and MyJPJ accepts your MyKad number. Registering with your IC, not just a plate, catches every saman tied to your name.
- Select the saman. Check the offence, date and amount against the day count above.
- Pay by FPX online banking or card. MyBayar PDRM charges no service charge. Licensed aggregators such as MyEG also work, but official channels usually update faster.
- Keep the receipt. Official-channel payments typically post within 1 to 3 working days, so screenshot the confirmation.
What happens if you ignore it?
Your road tax and licence get blocked. An unpaid saman can get you blacklisted by JPJ or PDRM, which stops you renewing your road tax and driving licence. At the time of the October 2025 announcement, the minister said outstanding saman totalled RM6.6 billion.
Clearing it is simple. For JPJ and AES cases, paying through MyJPJ lifts the blacklist once the payment is processed.
Old way vs Motorist App: What changes for your saman
The amounts stay the same; the effort does not. The discount tiers apply whichever channel you use. What the Motorist App, Malaysia's AutoConcierge platform, changes is how fast you find out and how many places you have to look.

Expert tip:
Register with your MyKad number rather than a single plate, and check both MyBayar PDRM and MyJPJ on the morning after a night out. A JPJ saman will not show in the police app, and a left-overnight parking compound lives on the council's portal. Setting a day-14 reminder gives you a buffer before the RM150 window closes.
Common mistake:
Putting off payment until it is convenient. Every day after day 15 costs you more: a RM300 compound that was RM150 becomes about RM200 at day 16 and RM300 at day 31.
Conclusion
Police, JPJ, AES and council parking saman can all be paid online, but drink-driving and other court-only offences cannot. Paying within 15 days halves a RM300 compound to RM150, and every week of delay costs more. Motorist's AutoConcierge team recommends checking both MyBayar PDRM and MyJPJ as soon as you spot a notice.
FAQ
1. Can I pay a drink-driving saman online in Malaysia?
No. Drink-driving under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 is a non-compoundable offence that is dealt with in court, not through an online payment.
2. Which saman can I pay online in Malaysia?
Police compounds can be paid on MyBayar PDRM, JPJ and AES notices on MyJPJ or MySIKAP, and parking compounds on the issuing council's portal. Court-only offences such as drink-driving or driving without insurance cannot be paid online.
3. How do I check my saman by IC number?
Log in to MyBayar PDRM for police saman and MyJPJ for JPJ and AES saman using your MyKad number. Check your council's portal separately for parking compounds.
4. How much discount do I get for paying a saman early in 2026?
You get 50% off if you pay within 15 days, 33% off within 16 to 30 days, and no discount from day 31 to 60. On a RM300 compound that is RM150, about RM200 and RM300.
5. What happens if I don't pay my saman within 60 days?
From day 61 you face court action and blacklisting by JPJ or PDRM. A blacklist blocks you from renewing your road tax and driving licence.
6. Does a JPJ saman show up on MyBayar PDRM?
No. JPJ and PDRM run separate systems, so check MyJPJ for JPJ and AES notices and MyBayar PDRM for police saman.
7. Is there a service charge on MyBayar PDRM?
No. Paying police saman directly on MyBayar PDRM by FPX or card carries no service charge, whereas third-party aggregators may add fees.
8. How long does it take for a saman payment to reflect?
Payments through official channels such as MyJPJ and MyBayar PDRM typically post within 1 to 3 working days. Third-party portals can take longer.
