In a press conference on 22nd May 2021, the Malaysian government announced tighter SOP and measurements for MCO 3.0 to curb the spread of Covid-19. Malaysia will expect more people to work from home, shorten operating hours for malls, and decreased public transport capacity.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob mentioned that 80% of government staff and 40% of workers in the private sector would work from home to flatten the Covid-19 curve. This measure will involve 750,000 government staff and about 6.1 million private-sector workers.

Businesses will only be allowed to operate 12 hours a day, from 8am to 8pm. Retailers in malls, eateries offering takeaways and petrol stations not located on highways will also need to comply with this rule.

The frequency of public transportations such as LRT and buses will be reduced by 50% of its original capacity. Travellers commuting by private vehicles, e-hailing rides, or taxis will expect more roadblocks stationed across inter-states and inter-districts.

The tighter SOP and measurements for MCO 3.0 will take effect from Tuesday on 25th May 2021 for the whole of peninsular Malaysia and Labuan.
