Toll charges have been lowered on the Kajang-Seremban Highway (Lekas) and Sungai Besi Highway (Besraya) since the start of the year.
The decision to reduce toll charges on these two highways was agreed upon at a cabinet meeting on the 21st of December last year, according to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
The Loke Yew and Mines toll plazas at Besraya are now charging Class 1 vehicles RM1.85 either way, down from RM2. Class 1 vehicles at Lekas are also now charged only RM7.80 instead of the former RM8.30 toll fee.
However, the Ampangan toll plaza is still charging the same fixed rate as it uses an open toll system, a system that charges road users a fixed fee that allows motorists to exit the highway at any interchange until the next toll plaza. This is in contrast with the closed toll system which charges road users based on the distance travelled and the class of the vehicle used.
Nanta states that this reduction is part of an agreement to 'restructure and review toll rates decided by the government.' The lowered toll fees will be effective throughout the concession period.
