Just a week after a deadly incident involving a fallen tree on Jalan Sultan Ismail, another tree succumbed to heavy thunderstorms in Kuala Lumpur's city center. This time, the location is Jalan Pinang, near the Petronas Twin Towers.

The fallen tree landed on several parked cars within the One KL condominium compound, bordering Mandarin Oriental, and spilled debris onto the main road. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported thus far. However, the incident has caused a temporary closure of Jalan Pinang, leading to slow-moving traffic out of the KLCC area.

This recent incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by extreme weather events and the importance of having proper car insurance coverage.

Why Special Perils Insurance is Important

Standard car insurance covers collisions and theft, but it often leaves gaps in protection when it comes to damage caused by natural disasters or other unforeseen circumstances. This is where Special Perils (Perils Khas) insurance becomes crucial.

Special Perils Insurance: Protecting Your Car from the Unexpected

Special Perils insurance bridges the gap in your car insurance coverage by providing financial protection against a wider range of events, including:

  • Acts of God: Floods, lightning strikes, landslides, and typhoons are all covered under Special Perils insurance.
  • Fallen trees and branches: The recent incidents on Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Pinang highlight the importance of this coverage. The unpredictable nature of falling trees makes this a valuable addition to your insurance policy, especially in areas with older trees or prone to strong winds.
  • Fire: Damage caused by fire is another peril covered by this insurance.
  • Riots and strikes: In rare cases, your car may be damaged during riots or strikes. Special Perils insurance can offer protection in such situations.

Considering Special Perils Insurance? Here's What to Do

If you live in an area prone to heavy storms, natural disasters, or even strong winds, adding Special Perils coverage to your existing car insurance policy is a wise decision. Contact your insurance provider to discuss your options and get a quote.

Motorists are advised to stay alert during heavy rain and avoid parking under trees whenever possible. Be aware of your surroundings and follow traffic updates to avoid road closures.

By taking precautions and having the right insurance coverage, you can ensure better financial protection for your car in the event of unexpected events.
