Vehicle owners in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Labuan can rejoice! The fee for printing a physical copy of the Vehicle Ownership Certificate (VOC) has been significantly reduced to RM20, effective July 1, 2024. This marks a welcome change from the previous fees of RM50 in Peninsular Malaysia and RM25 in Sabah and Labuan.

What is the Vehicle Ownership Certificate (VOC)?

Introduced in 2016 by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the VOC replaced the Registration Card (RC) as a record of vehicle ownership. It contains all the same crucial details about your vehicle as the RC did. However, unlike the RC, a physical copy of the VOC isn't mandatory for most transactions. You can renew your road tax, change ownership, or update vehicle particulars digitally.

Why the Fee Reduction?

The Malaysian government implemented this change to achieve a more standardized fee structure across different regions. Transport Minister Anthony Loke highlighted the aim to "bridge the fee gap between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak." While the new fee applies in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Labuan, Sarawak maintains a slightly higher fee of RM25 (RM5 for printing + RM20 standard fee).

Do You Need a Physical Copy of the VOC?

While not essential for most transactions, some individuals may still prefer a physical copy of the VOC for their records. The reduced fee makes obtaining a printed copy much more affordable.
