Latest fuel prices in Malaysia for August 7 to 13: RON95 and RON97 unchanged, diesel rises

The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has announced that fuel prices in Malaysia for the week of August 7 to August 13, 2024 will remain the same for petrol, but diesel has seen a slight increase. According to the latest update, the price of RON95 petrol remains capped at RM2.05 per litre, while RON97 stays at RM3.17 per litre. However, diesel fuel is up by three sen from the previous week, now priced at RM2.94 per litre under the managed float system based on global oil prices.

This price change is part of Malaysia’s ongoing subsidy rationalisation efforts, following the launch of the PADU system and targeted diesel subsidy programme. The government has promised that the price of RON95 will remain unchanged for now to protect the rakyat, but diesel prices are now adjusted weekly in line with market trends. This comes after the introduction of fleet cards for commercial vehicles and the announcement that abuse of diesel subsidies will result in card cancellations. Many are now watching closely to see if similar changes will apply to petrol prices in the coming months.
