Johor Bahru, 25 June 2024:  Following safety concerns due to poor visibility, a long-awaited improvement is coming to the Lebuhraya Pasir Gudang. The Johor Chief Minister, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, announced the installation of street lights along a dark stretch of the FT17 highway.

This news comes after a recent accident on the road, believed to be caused by the lack of visibility. A video shared by Datuk Onn Hafiz on social media showed a collision between a car and a motorcycle, highlighting the dangers posed by the unlit highway.

Motorists can breathe a sigh of relief as Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB) is set to begin installing 170 street lights along the highway stretch from KM2.6 to KM9.4.  The installation is scheduled to commence in September 2024, offering a much-needed improvement for nighttime travel.

This initiative is part of a larger plan for the Lebuhraya Pasir Gudang. The road is included in Phase 3 of the widening project, currently under review by the Ministry of Finance. Construction for the widening is expected to start in early 2025 under the Ministry of Works.

The addition of street lights is a significant step towards enhancing safety for motorists and motorcyclists using the highway at night. This project demonstrates the Johor state government's commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring the well-being of its citizens.
